The Yandex Direct help does not describe one blocked-placement list for the whole account. The list is set on the campaign. In Direct you can block impressions on selected Yandex Advertising Network placements and in external networks. You cannot block impressions on Yandex search projects. What click fraud is, and how it differs from a placement that is simply ineffective, this block does not decide on its own: it only stops showing the ad in the places you named.

The help warns that excluding placements can narrow the audience. Below are two limits the help states differently, how to edit the list from a report, and how choosing places in VK Ads differs from blocking a domain.

Two limits that have to be stated apart

The blocked-placements page: for banners the list is up to 1,000 domains, for video ads up to 100. A site on the list closes both its thematic pages and search on that site. An external network cannot be blocked as a whole, only individual placements.

The networks FAQ states it differently: you add no more than 1,000 impression places to the disabled list, and that ceiling includes sites, apps, and external networks. Impressions on Yandex search projects cannot be blocked there either. While the help pages diverge, banners and video take the blocked-placements page, and apps take the wording about 1,000 places.

What you blockWhich limit to use
Banner domainsUp to 1,000 domains, blocked-placements page
Video-ad domainsUp to 100 domains, the same page
Apps together with sites and external networksNo more than 1,000 impression places, networks FAQ
Yandex searchCannot be blocked on either page
An external network as a wholeCannot; only individual placements

In the campaign parameters, the block “Placements where impressions are banned” excludes sites and apps, entered separated by commas. You open the campaign through the menu → “Edit.” In the extra settings of an app-promotion campaign, the ban takes domains, mobile-app identifiers, or names of external networks. In both places the help warns that an exclusion can make the campaign work worse and cut off audience. App identifiers and external-network names are written out on the app-campaign creation page.

An account-wide list is not assembled from this. Two campaigns do not inherit each other’s ban until you enter it in each one or switch impressions from the report.

Several campaigns — from the report, not from one field

In the “Placements” report you can allow or block impressions on a placement without leaving the report. A placement already blocked is marked gray. The help advises deciding on statistically significant data and suggests turning previously disabled placements back on to recheck them. The page does not translate “statistically significant data” into a number of clicks or conversions.

In one report you can change impressions for several campaigns at once. The same control exists in Report Wizard under the “Placement name” grouping. That is the closest thing to a “single list” the help describes: one action on several campaigns from a report, not a field that lives above every campaign in the account. The gray label shows the placement is already banned, and it does not replace the recheck the help suggests.

An exclusion does not refund money for clicks that already happened and does not mark the placement invalid. Invalid clicks and whether Yandex returns money are decided apart from a gray row in the report. Who clicks an ad without being a buyer is covered in the article on who clicks ads. The difference between the words “click fraud” and “sklikivanie” is in the article on click fraud and sklikivanie. A placement ban does not draw those distinctions: it stops showing the ad in the selected place.

VK Ads: placement checkboxes, not a domain blocklist

VK Ads turns on automatic placement selection for ads by default. The help lists the places as Odnoklassniki, VKontakte, VK projects, the ad network (the examples are Youla, Avito, Auto.ru, and Edadeal), and RuStore for apps from RuStore. To keep only some of them, on the ad-group step in the “Placement” block you turn off automatic places and clear the extra checkboxes. That page suggests judging ad effectiveness by CTR, CPC, CPM, and conversion.

This is a choice of large placements, not the exclusion of one network domain by name, as in Direct. The page has no columns for invalid clicks or a refund for them. These settings do not let you carry a Direct domain list into VK Ads as the same blocklist: there you clear a place’s checkbox, you do not type a domain separated by commas.

Keeping “one list” therefore means keeping it per Direct campaign and deciding VK Ads places separately. In Direct the banner ceiling is 1,000 domains, video is 100, Yandex search is not excluded, and an external network is not blocked as a whole. Several campaigns are edited from the “Placements” report. The account does not store the list by itself.
